"In the fragrance of rice flowers, we talk of a bountiful year, listening to the chorus of frogs," was once a vivid scene in Wanfu Street, Luxi New District, Heze City, Shandong Province. Rice cultivation was also once a renowned specialty industry here. However, due to various constraints, the fragrance of rice once faded from people's sight.

The Leize Lake Community in Wanfu Street is adjacent to the Heze West City Reservoir. Due to its low terrain and high water level, the villagers have long been plagued by water storage and drainage issues, which directly affect crop yields. The people's wishes are the direction of our work. In accordance with the work requirements of the higher authorities and in combination with the actual situation of the community, Xue Ying, the party secretary of the community, united and led the "two committees" of the community to conduct in-depth field research, formulate plans, devise countermeasures, and repeatedly communicate and coordinate with the masses. Finally, the river channels were opened and the waterways were dredged, paving the way for rice to "return home".

In 2023, Xue Ying initiated a pilot project among the local residents, and the first attempt at rice cultivation was a success, with a yield per mu reaching 1300 jin. At the beginning of 2024, the community's "two committees" capitalized on this momentum and took early action to address pressing issues such as difficulties in irrigation and electricity supply. They proactively reached out to Wanfu Street and departments responsible for power supply and water conservancy, coordinating and resolving these issues one by one. That year, the number of rice farmers reached over 80, with a cultivation area of more than 220 mu. By 2026, the cultivation area had expanded to over 300 mu. The rice fields not only embody the sentiments of the villagers but also represent tangible economic and ecological value.

Recently, Xue Ying, the Party Secretary of Leize Lake Community in Wanfu Street, Luxi New District, Heze, stood in the rice paddies, switching freely between English and Heze dialect, promoting the autumn harvest of rice in Leize Lake Community.

At present, the rice fields in the Leize Lake community are rolling with golden waves. When the breeze blows, the rice stalks undulate layer upon layer, and the eyes are filled with the color of harvest. The heavy rice stalks condense the farmers' hard work throughout the year; from seedling cultivation, irrigation to field management and protection, every drop of sweat is hidden in this golden rice wave. The rice is about to be harvested, and the harvest is in sight. This is not only a harvest of grain, but also a good prospect for rural revitalization.
